I've ordered a pizza tonight, so instead of cooking we're going to talk about my next love: BEER.
Who doesn't love beer? While I understand that it is an acquired taste, once acquired it is a delicious American ambrosia. I say American because I am a patriot and not a terrorist. So I only drink American brews. I've been known to partake in a Belgian brew here and there, but only in a moment of weakness. Take note.
I picked up a few beers that I could not (mostly) be gotten in my state. Twelve beers to be precise:
That's eleven. Because I forgot the twelfth on the other counter. Oh well.
I'm pretty psyched about these twelve beers because I haven't been drinking much lately, so I've started to forgot about these delectable imbibements. However, I figured when I'm sick and cranky, I should really reach for a brewski to ease my pain.
Let's really dig deeper into this.
First up:
OLD CHUB. A brewski from a great sleeper brewery in Colorado called Oskar Blues. During a trip in Colorado, a bartender at New Belgium Brewing recommended this place, so in lieu of some other unremembered brewery, I went here and had this beer. I didn't like the brewery itself too much--it was more of an overcrowded restaurant--but the beer was good. AND, the beers come in cans. AND, their taps have the can on top of them. That's pretty rad. Cans get a bad rap and may be associated with scummy beer. I like Oskar Blues because it is bringing scummy back to classy, like Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic. I'm glad the can is coming back. If you catch this around, I would highly recommend it.
Next:
Another good brew from Boulder, Colorado--and another brewery I visited, Avery Brewing--called Old Jubilation. I've had their IPA before, but I've never had this besides what I tasted out west. While I never gave much thought to this brewery, I was extremely impressed when I asked the bartender at the brewery to pour me a sweet beer and she gave me this excellent concoction of two really good beers. It was unforgettable, even though I forgot it. You know how it goes.
And then:
New Glarus! This is a place I'm really in to. I wish that ye ole state got this beer distributed here, but at least I can act like a fool in another state and pick it up on the way back. I picked out two that I've never had before, Moon Man which is some sort of pale ale and a coffee stout, which I'm even more excited about than the Moon Man because I've never tried any of their thicker beers. I used to drink a lot of stouts, but kind of lost touch with them because they are rich. Now I'm trying to lose half of my body weight and rumor is that they have fewer calories. THANK GOD.
Two more:
This beer is PARTAKABLE. And you know what? It totally is. I've never had anything from Breckenridge Brewery--another Colorado favorite--in the bottle, so this is the one I'm most psyched about. When I was at the brewery, I tried eight different beers and this one was by far my favorite. This is certainly not for the faint of heart. Not because of alcohol content or brashness, but because it's totally what it says it is: A VANILLA PORTER. I mean, there is really a lot of vanilla in this thing. It's very overwhelming at first and the person who was drinking next to me did not take kindly to its vanilla dreaminess. I'm not one for sweet beer or over-flavored beer (I had a friend once refer to an unnamed apricot flavored beer as tasting like vomit aftertaste, so that's kind of ruined it for me since), but this one is good. Check it.
And lastly, a nod to this beer:
Some brewery called Horny Goat? I'm in. I couldn't say no to this Milwaukee based beer. Plus, I've never tried it. I think it's the only milk stout I picked up in the bunch and if it's good, I might be going back for more. Plus, the beer is called STACKED. This brewery is likely run by a lot of perverts or sex offenders.
I ate some pretty sweet pizza from a pretty delicious brewery as well. Award winning even. They have amazing beers like the Moose Knuckle and Camel Toe, all of which hit nice and close to home.
If you don't like beer, you must be super boring and uptight, so you probably like cats. Since I was gone from 7 a.m this morning to 7 p.m. this evening, my cat was not happy, as noted in the picture I took directly after coming home:
She's fucking pissed.
Time to get your drink on.
